As most of you know, we have lost our beloved Alan Rickman. Let's all share a memory of a movie, experience of him on screen..etc.
My first time seeing him on the morning announcements (commercial) was the 1st movie. I was in 8th grade. I looked into those eyes and his voice melted my soul.
I watch Love Actually every Christmas.
Bottle Shock is one of my faves.
I'm currently listening to the HP books on tape. It comforted me this morning on my commute to work. (HP3 so far)
Sadness.

He became my favorite after the first movie as well. I was 12. People thought I was a weirdo. Then I found this place. But in all seriousness. What a shitty week for British men... First David Bowie, now Alan. RIP Goblin King. RIP Snapers.

RIP Alan and David.
I remember seeing the first HP film in the theatre with a group of friends. I hadn't yet read the books but after seeing the movie, I was hooked. Another friend had even given me the first book as a birthday present.
Similarly, although I'd heard some of David Bowie's songs on the radio, growing up, I didn't really get more into it until I saw Labyrinth in high school. We saw the ballroom scene in my Crafts class because we were going to be making masks (I can't remember if I had seen part of another scene years before). I fell in love with that scene and had to see the whole movie.
They will both be missed but I hope they keep on making magic.

So very sad I guess my first real introduction to Alan was through his portrayal of Snape, which obviously led to this board's creation. My mum and I saw Philosopher's Stone several times at the cinema just to watch his performance, hah... and then we started tracking down some of the other movies he'd been in, some of my favourites being Sense & Sensibility, Dogma, Galaxy Quest, Love Actually and Die Hard. It'll be weird to live in a world without him now... And the Bowie news came as a shock to me as well I loved his music.

I heard at work, same as when the news of Bowie hit, and both times I remembered the joy of sharing stuff with you guys. Then another wave of mixed grief and guilt hit.
I was 11 when Philosopher's Stone came out and immediately Snape captivated me because he was even more intriguing than I had imagined while reading, though it took until Chamber of Secrets for me to fully hit that stage where I needed to devour everything Rickman...and good lord I did. I actually had one of my first legitimate "teenage fights" with her over watching Dogma and Quigley Down Under...
I only first got a computer and internet just a few months before I turned 11 and I didn't really do a ton of exploring until all the wonderful stuff for the PS film started rolling out...and in my excited searching I eventually found this place the following year. I found you guys. I realized there were actual communities for the things I loved, the characters I loved, the people I loved and I learned so much that would become sort of fundamental things in my life - the concept of fandom, the realization that having friends across the globe was so much easier now, and that people could really band together over a shared love or goal.
Actually, my original password...the randomly generated string of letters from before the days of numbers, capitalization, punctuation and odd symbols...I never changed it. I committed that to memory and have used it as my main password for countless sites since. Of course, for security reasons I've changed them time and time again, but I'm incredibly sentimental.
I've loved Alan's performances across the board and will continue to love everything he was capable of, I'm sure, but I'm immensely thankful he brought my favourite problematic fave to life. I'm thankful he was a significant part in such a significant time of my life, and that he led me to here and eventually onto all sorts of sites.
Even Facebook.
I'm not going to attribute stumbling onto any of the weirder sites to him though. I'll happily blame my friends.

So it looks like the sad news brought me back here. First Bowie, now Rickman. What a week. I'm going to be the odd man out and say my favorite Alan Rickman movie was Galaxy Quest. I was a Trekkie well before being a Potterhead, so Galaxy Quest is something of a comfort food movie for me. (Even if it's not -really- a Trek film... it's still one of the best Trek films :-p) I'll probably be watching it later. If only Dr. Lazarus could've lived up to his name

I had a bit of a crush on Snape from the beginning, but Alan Rickman definitely solidified it... I'm so glad they picked someone who could bring the right amount of nuance to his character. And damn, I will be fantasizing about that voice until the day I die. Watched many movies I might not have seen if it wasn't for him and am all the better for it. And David Bowie in the same week?? Loved Labyrinth as a kid and have been in love with his music for a long time since then. Two great people with so many great contributions.
P.S. if you're on facebook and not friends with me, we should fix that pronto.

So I guess Alan had pancreatic cancer. How awful. I mean, obviously all cancer is terrible, but that's probably the worst kind.

Same here - www.facebook.com/random.artistryI suppose it's one of the few positives of such a tragedy, the fact that those mutual feelings of grief and sadness tend to bring people together, be it for the first time or a long overdue reunion.

Did anyone know her real name? I know she lived in Chicago for a bit, but that won't do much in google. :/

I was waiting for a flight back to Utah when I heard the news. In my mind I'll always associate DFW terminal E with AR
