yeah, i'm with james... were they decent people at an individual level? no doubt. but for whatever reason, when they got together, they were jackasses. there's never, or at the very least extremely rarely, an excuse for that.

I agree as well, but I also think that sometimes Snape was probably hard to get along with. I've always felt like the whole rivalry between the marauders and Snape came from a misunderstanding due to Snape's lack of social skills. Not that it justifies anything the marauders did to him (seriously, those guys were douchebags), but he did insult James first and thus set in motion a series of incidences that snowballed from there.

oh yeah, snape's social skills were shitty to say the least. but like you said, certainly not an excuse to act the way those guys did.
