the boy was on the serious rag for a lot of this.. frustrated sure.. but damn.. he really took it out on everyone didnt he...
I do like how Ginny put him in his place.... about her being the only person he could actually talk to bout bein possessed by Voldie...

Yeah, he did get a bit annoying... but I guess after all the stuff he's had to go through, and all the stuff he still has to go through, I guess it's about time he got angry... Didn't have to take it out on all his friends though...

exactly... I mean.. when you are down.. the best thing is to be with friends... and even if they dont know what you have or are feeling... exactly they do know you hurt.. and want to help...
he had to be the martyr with the lines.. ohhhhhhhhh that got me so mad... I wish he would have shown Minerva or even gone to the hospital wing so someone knew what that Umbitch was doing....

*lol* I think what the bad thing about not telling anyone was, that it was in a way condoning what "Umbitch" did - that's like if you were being abused by someone and you didn't tell anyone about it - you just took that abuse - it's not good. You shouldn't have to be treated like that. Just like Harry didn't deserve to write those lines... He or Ron and Hermione should have gone to Dumbledore or McGonagall...

Think of this though, would they have really been able to do anything to stop her? If they tried, she'd just call in her buddy Fudge, and then it would be her word against Potter's that she made him carve into his hand like that. Suuuuure, Fudge would definitely side with Potter on that one! Normally I'd say that he should have told someone, but in this case I think it really wouldn't have done much good. Plus he felt he couldn't go to Dumbledore, which I can't really blame him, when Dumbledore is acting all goofy every time he's around Potter. The only thing I could think of is if he told one of the other teachers and they could put an illusion of the hand being cut while its actually fine, but I'm not sure if that would even be possible.
I put foreward a theory about Potter's lashing out at his friends in one of the other threads here, but bascially I think that it might have been washover of Voldie's emotions just overriding Potter when he wasn't expecting it.

BUT... remember this part of the series.. it is geared towards 'children' to say well NO ONE CAN DO ANYTHING about this abuse.. is a very wicked BAD BAD message to send... that is what helps abusive situations go on for years and years...
EVEN if he went to someone and they couldnt do something.. when all settled down they could have said well... this is your punishment for doing this to students...
Yeah I know that life sucks.. and Im just kinda let down by that part.. as most of the other books have such great empowerment statements...

Yeah I know, that wasn't the best message to send across. Oh, and Harry wasn't the only one who refused to talk about it, wasn't there a bunch of other students after him who got detention with her? It looked like they weren't saying anything about it either, its just that Harry noticed that one guy's hand and told him how to fix it a bit.

thats what happens.. they follow the lead.... no one is willin to speak out.. and Lee was just as bad not to.. he got the 'cure for pain' from Harry.. and figured Harry knew what it was.. didnt make waves...
thats how many teachers have been able to abuse students for years and years.. HAD any of them told their rents.. it would have gotten back to the school govs.. and well.. boot to the head comes to mind...

Yeah, if that other kid wound up telling his parents, then maybe something would have been done. (Harry couldn't exactly tell his parents though, so there's another reason why he didn't) Wonder if Umbitch was keeping track of the student's mail covertly when she had them for detention too, just in case someone would try that...

she was a powerfreak.. doubt she cared...
Ron even knew that McGon would freak out.. but Harry did something that DD does to him all the time.. which is.... not tell someone cuz he felt justifide not to...
so he is just as bad.. cant be too mad at DD.. he is just as guilty...

oh GOD.... harry was annoying me in book five!!! most definitely...... the whiniest bugger of the lot. to be honest, i think JK is getting a bit sick of HP these days perhaps she was just trying to spice up harry's character, perhaps she's bored of his complacency and how he lets everything he's been through wash over him.... i agree with the voldemort's-emotions-spilling-over theory, i think it's going to be REALLY cheesy in the Order of the Phoenix movie when harry can sorta 'read voldemort's mind'

well, harry is really being a "typical" teenager..although it's not as bad for a normal teenager(not haveing to deal with all the darkness harry had)some get quite moody and annoying..i think harry was a bit exaggerated..but considering all that's going on i guess it's to be expected..he's confused..he hasn't had any real contact with anybody all summer..he's living in a place where nobody wants him around..he's left alone to only imagine what his friends are doing, he thinks they are running around carefree while he is living isolated practically in a jail.. so he has good reason to be mad..look at all the stuff that's building up.. so although while you were reading it you just wanted to slap him(or JKR for making him this way..) i think it just has to be accepted that harry is changing and getting older.. but i would have thought that by the time he got to hogwarts things might have been better but then umbridge shows up.. blah..i dunno..i might have made sense..i might not have..i might have just repeated stuff..whatever..
maybe an easier solution would just be to give him some midol and tell him to shut up.. hey at least he's not crying all over the place like cho..

yeh the book would have been way too depressing if he was crying at everyone instead of yelling at them! One teary eyed student was enough! It kinda makes sense to me that he was angry.... especially during the first few chapters when he found out he was being followed, and that Ron and Hermione were at the Orders headquarters. I was angry for him! After everything he's been through you'd think they could trust him with some basic info. Dumbledore should have said why Harry had to stay at his Aunt and Uncles house. I think he would've understood. It would suck being out of the loop on matters that concern you. BUT... he was wrong to take it out on his friends. He was permanently moody I mean they did'nt know all that much. He should've definitely eased up later in the book. But, you know after 4 years of everything he's put up with i'd be a little bit twitchy too. So... yeah... i've prattled on for long enough.... hee hee, my brain hurts ;D

well everyone has had the exasperation of being left out.. and its about them.. 'protected' if you will... and its very annoying...
but still... :::hands over midol:::::
Harry has been manipulated around all over the place.. he is going to have to learn how to move that to his advantage..

well since he has lost Black.. makes ya wonder if he is going to be less willing to attach himself to anything.. as he seemed like he was tryin real hard to remove his emotional attachments.... which DD told him was his strenght.. but, he might not see it that way.. and well..dunno exactly where that would take him..
