To me Snape is just a strict mean looking old fart who likes to pick on students for he is oh so lonely in life. I'm definitley not saying that he's a bad teacher or anything, i just wouldn't want to have him for my potions teacher - but then again he does fit the part :neener:

to me he is a very misunderstood, underappreciated brilliant wizard, who agrees to teach the spawns of death eaters along with other flavors of brainless gits.... someone that pushes anyone that might like to be in his life away, as he has probably suffered a horrible loss of someone close... and has decided to be a martyr type.. and not have the chance of hurting someone else.. meanwhile hurting himself more.... ::::: ::::::

To me, Snape is a teacher who cares highly about his students learning, and more so about being hurt by people. he often seems cross but under it all he is as soft as a marshmallow. Actually this woulda come out better I think If I woulda just said I second that to Silly!

I think Snape is a victim of the world's brutality. I have explained everything in my theories and I don't have time or strength to explain those theories right now.

Snape is just Snape, whatever he has magic power or not. Personally ,I think he might be very lonely and that's why he always treats students in such a way.I do believe he has a soft heart although he never shows it to anybody.

Though Snape is a wonderful potions Professor, I respect his talents for Defense Against the Dark Arts greatly. Although he seems to have or perhaps even had gone astray at one point or another, I find myself trusting him more than many other person at Hogwarts.
He may be hiding under a Slytherin veil, but I see some bravery under than thick disguise. I also see some amazing talents from the mind. I wouldn't be surprised if the sorting hat seriously considered placing him in Ravenclaw, like myself. As a matter of fact, what if Snape was meant to be in Ravenclaw, after all, but wanted Slytherin?
Either way, I see many qualities in Snape that make him an ideal teacher and ally. Hogwarts would not be the same without him, even if he looses his temper and bends so much towards Slytherin when he makes decisions. Besides, I think he just does it to cover up.

Well, you wondered properly, I guess. If the brain is big enough, label it under "R" for Ravenclaw.

First, the character itself: I like how the Snape character adds to the "salad" of Harry Potter (a lot of my "theories" revolve around salad) I see the character as a Radish- a spicy yet enjoyable additive that moves the story along well.
Second, the person: Of course he's misunderstood..... Geze.....look at what happens to him in OOTO..... stupid mudbloods..... He's an excellent wizard and even though it suggests that Dumbledore trusts him, I don't think he really does......after all......if Snape always goes afer the Defense against te Dark Arts job, then why does Dumbledore always pick someone other than him? I wonder if Snape'll ever get the job......I'll bet that Potter failed his potions OWL, but Snape'll be the next Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.......that'd be pretty funny......all that work to get away from Snape, only to be reunited once again with 'im......
Third, Conclusions: I enjoy Snape's character a lot. He is verymisunderstood, though I don't think he's "marshmallowy", so much as he's "radishy", red on the outside and white on the outside.....and an ever good salad ingridient......

I second everything Silly said!! I love Professor Snape, he's just misunderstood. i bet he's got a good heart. i mean he's done a lot of things to help out Harry despite the fact he loathes him. I reckon he's a fantastic potions master and wizard! I mean you gotta give him credit for being an occlumens, thats probably one of the reasons why he isn't very emotional and appears "cold". *let me warm you up Professor* ;D DeathEater i love your theory i was wondering about that too! just when Harry thinks he's gotten away.... Professor Snape sucks him back in!! mwahhahahaha

for me his the most cleverer...ingenious... lovely sneering face... most horrible sweet velvet voice... most amusing raising eyebrows... the strictest of all the teacher ever... no need to say "SHUT UP!" or make an unwilling noise just to shut the students up... his pressence is ENOUGH... (awww! he's great! )... and for me he's the GOD of.. erm! you know what... hahaha!

Snape is just another body I can posess... OOC: To me, Snape is a fascinating character. A charater which lives in a wonderful grey area. He is not a nice person. He's sadistic, and childish, and petty and vengeful, but he's one of the good guys. And it shows that not all good guys, are good people. which is a very interesting archetype to see in children's literature (but again, I don't truley consider HP children's literature. Like JKR said, she was writing the story for herself...) I suppose Snape fills the role of Loki, the norse god of mischief. His job in mythology is to put fire underneath the hero's butt (not literally...well, not usually anyway) to get him to grow as a human being. I think Snape is sort of Harry's Loki, and as such, through Snape's antagonism towards Harry, I hope Harry will outgrow Snape's pettiness. As for Snape, as if he was an actual person, rather than a very interesting character in a book.... Well, let me put it this way, I wouldn't want to know him in real life.....LOL.... Actually, the head of the acting departmen at the music academy I went to in high school was very much like him, unfortunately... I didn't even have him for a teacher and he had it in for me for absolutely no reason at all....During my acting final, he was very cruel, even the other acting teachers thought he was being unreasonable. (The only one to say anything was the one who was retireing that semester... the rest, I think were afraid for their jobs ) And he sent me a letter at the end of the semester which is almost word for word something Snape would say...for instance, and I quote "You have a way of thinking the rules don't apply to you." (this refers to my having had to write out by hand my final essay, rather than type it, like it said to in the instructions, because my printer was on the fritz, which I explained clearly in a note directly on the paper...:-P) At the time I was upset, but now, I just think it's funny and sad at the same time...I figure he's a very lonely, sad and insecure person on this inside...:-( (I'm not the only person he ever behaved this way to... ) And on a unrelated note...I'm watching Dracula 2000... and ...darn...Dracula is good-looking.....dressed like a young snape, but with curly brown hair... hehe...he's like LV in Snape's body.... hmm....scary combination..... As for the actual plot...I had Dracula's secret identity figured out as soon as we found out he knew Aramaic, and has an aversion to silver (actually I don't know if I'm right yet, but I'm almost certain I'm right) Darn... there was something I wanted to add to the first paragraph, but then I went off on a rant :-P LOL oh well... If I think of it, i'll add it later.... UPDATE: Yeah, I was right about good ol' Dracula's identity...interesting premisee.... hehee... cool ending.... overall a fun vamp muvie, nothing revolutionary...but fun....

well I have to say.. mean teachers that are mean just for the sake of being mean.. and to fill their own ego that they are better.. are just stupid....
I dont think Snape is mean cuz of that.. I think he is really frustrated that peeps dont get it... Harry messed up potions that can be lethal the way he does them.. and it gets Snape mad... WHY cant he get it? he is distracted by other things.. cant follow directions.. automaticly thinks he knows more then Snape... and well.. yeah.. its frustrating if you know how to do something.. try to teach someone.. and they dont do what you set up.. its like HELLO are you in there? LISTEN.... did you do line 3? NO... well duh... so do it right or dont do it...
Ive had horrid teachers that were just mean to be mean... never wanting to teach me anything.. just to make themselves feel better... I really dont think that is Snape... I think the reason I feel this way.. is its very close to how i feel on things.. and why Im not a real teacher... I can relate to a LOT of Snape.. thats why I am defencive of him... heh
